Highlighting Winston-Salem's Nonprofits One Organization at a Time

Who is your go to when donating Winston-Salem?

By Jeffrey Willey Publisher Macaroni KID, Winston-Salem, NC July 21, 2022

Are you someone that is looking to make a change in the world?  Do you see good deeds being done and want to do your part?  Maybe you have a personal attachment to a certain organization.  Whatever the case may be, non-profit companies depend on the support of outside/public funding.  It is downright imperative to their survival.  As you go about your day making plans, please take the time to make a plan to help.

There are so many ways that we can help in our community.  Some non-profits are looking for supplies, while some simply need volunteers.  Of course, there is the traditional financial donation that allows organizations to stay afloat.  Not to mention, some of you are looking for tax breaks, donating to a non-profit allows you to write that donation off.

There are many non-profit organizations in and around the Winston-Salem area that are looking for help from people in our community.  People like you!  At Macaroni KID Winston-Salem we will be highlighting a different non-profit organization weekly nominated by our readers. If you have a non-profit organization you would like to nominate please email us at mackidwinstonsalem@macaronikid.com.  All nominations must be made by a current subscriber of Macaroni KID Winston-Salem. This week, we recognize:

Forsyth Humane Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to enriching our community by promoting the compassionate treatment of cats and dogs. Their goal is to increase the save rate of Forsyth County shelter animals to 90% by 2023 from 36% in 2017. The Forsyth Humane Society is very specific in how they plan to reach said goal.  From their website, here are the components:

  • Education – FHS will educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering pets to decrease the number of homeless animals living in Forsyth County.
  • Outreach – FHS will support people who want to keep their beloved animals in their homes, but need help with food, vet bills, pet supplies, or training and behavioral resources.
  • Foster – FHS will provide foster care for adoptable animals when shelter space is limited or when animals require specialized care to become adoptable, such as very young puppies and kittens, or animals healing from medical issues.
  • Adoption – FHS will find safe, loving homes for as many animals as possible.
  • Care – FHS respects the life of every animal. We will provide physical and emotional care to each animal that comes through our doors.

For almost 80 years, Forsyth Humane Society has advocated for homeless, neglected cats and dogs in our community. The Forsyth Human Society is committed to placing cats and dogs into loving homes, advancing community understanding of the benefits of animal companionship, providing needed resources to the pet community, and promoting spaying/neutering of dogs and cats. The Forsyth Humane Society believes that animal companionship enriches peoples’ lives, animal companionship builds character and teaches compassion, the overpopulation of cats and dogs will be reduced through awareness, education, and community involvement, and the compassionate treatment of animals positively impacts our community’s vitality.
