Get the help needed to make them successful

The struggle is real when the kiddos finally speak up and need help with their homework.  It's even more real when you're not exactly sure how to help them.  Getting tutoring help can be a valuable resource for improving your child's understanding of a subject or achieving their academic goals. In conjunction with our Tutoring Services Guide we offer the following points on how to go about finding a tutor and asking for help.

  1. Identify Your Child's Needs:
    • Determine what specific subject or topic you need help with. Whether it's math, science, language, or any other subject, understanding your needs is the first step.
  2. Consider Your Options:
    • Explore the various tutoring options available to you. These can include:
      • School resources: Many schools and colleges offer free tutoring services.
      • Private tutors: Look for qualified individuals or tutoring agencies in your area.
      • Online tutoring platforms: There are many online platforms where you can find tutors for various subjects.
  3. Research Tutors:
    • If you're considering private tutors or online platforms, research potential tutors. Look for qualifications, experience, and reviews from other students.
  4. Prepare Questions:
    • Before contacting a potential tutor, prepare questions or areas you'd like to focus on during the tutoring sessions. This helps both your child and the tutor stay on track.
  5. Contact Tutors:
    • Reach out to potential tutors or tutoring platforms. You can do this via email, phone, or through the platform's messaging system. When reaching out, be clear about your child's needs, goals, and availability.
  6. Request a Meeting or Consultation:
    • Many tutors offer a free initial consultation or meeting to discuss your child's needs, their current level, and determine if they are a good fit. Use this opportunity to get to know the tutor and their teaching style.
  7. Discuss Expectations and Terms:
    • During the meeting, discuss the expectations for the tutoring sessions. This includes the frequency of sessions, duration, payment, and any specific goals you want to achieve.
  8. Be Open and Communicative:
    • Once your child has started tutoring, communicate openly with your tutor. If your child is struggling with something or needs additional help, don't hesitate to ask questions or request clarification.
  9. Stay Committed:
    • Commit to the tutoring schedule and be consistent. Consistency is key to making progress in your child's learning.
  10. Provide Feedback:
    • Share feedback with your tutor about what's working and what could be improved. This helps tailor the tutoring experience to your child's needs.
  11. Be Respectful:
    • Show respect for your tutor's time and expertise. Arrive on time for sessions and come prepared with questions and materials.
  12. Use Additional Resources:
    • Tutors can be a valuable resource, but don't rely solely on them. Supplement your child's learning with textbooks, online resources, and self-study.

Remember that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Tutors are there to assist you in your child's learning journey, so don't hesitate to seek their guidance when needed.
