We all know that decorating for specific holidays is a blast, but how many out there also decorate for the seasons?  When you decorate for the seasons, you can usually work in specific decorations for the key holidays as well.  Decorating for fall can be a fun and creative activity for kids. Here are some easy and enjoyable ways for kids to decorate for the fall season:

  1. Leaf Art:
    • Go on a nature scavenger hunt to collect colorful fall leaves.
    • Use the leaves to create leaf art by gluing them onto paper to make collages, leaf animals, or leaf people.
    • You can also paint the leaves with vibrant fall colors before using them in your artwork.
  2. Pumpkin Painting:
    • Instead of carving pumpkins, let kids paint them with acrylic paints or washable markers. They can create their own unique designs and patterns.
    • Consider setting up a "pumpkin painting station" with various colors and brushes for added creativity.
  3. Fall Wreaths:
    • Gather leaves, twigs, pinecones, and other natural materials from your backyard or a park.
    • Use a cardboard or foam wreath base and let kids arrange and glue the materials onto the base to create a fall wreath.
    • Add ribbons or bows for an extra touch.
  4. Pinecone Critters:
    • Collect pinecones and acorns to make cute critters like pinecone owls, hedgehogs, or squirrels.
    • Use craft supplies like googly eyes, felt, and pipe cleaners to add details and faces to your critters.
  5. Decorate Pumpkins with Stickers:
    • Provide kids with fall-themed stickers, such as leaves, pumpkins, or animals.
    • Let them stick the stickers onto pumpkins to create their own autumn decorations.
  6. Apple Print Art:
    • Cut apples in half and dip them in washable paint.
    • Press the painted apple halves onto paper to create apple prints.
    • These can be used to make apple-themed artwork or greeting cards.
  7. Mason Jar Luminaries:
    • Paint mason jars with fall colors or cover them in tissue paper with a mixture of glue and water for a stained glass effect.
    • Place battery-operated tea lights inside to create cozy fall luminaries.
  8. Fall Garland:
    • String together leaves, pinecones, acorns, or even paper cutouts of fall shapes to make a festive garland.
    • Hang it up in the house as a lovely fall decoration.
  9. Paper Plate Scarecrow:
    • Use a paper plate as the head of a scarecrow.
    • Let kids paint a face on the plate, and then attach straw or raffia for the hair and a construction paper hat and clothes.
  10. Fall-Themed Collage:
    • Collect various fall-related materials like dried corn kernels, small gourds, and colorful leaves.
    • Provide kids with a piece of cardboard or paper to create a 3D fall-themed collage.

Remember to always supervise young children during craft activities and use age-appropriate materials to ensure their safety. These activities will not only help kids get into the spirit of fall but also encourage their creativity and fine motor skills.
