Summer Time Bucket List - What's Yours?

After just taking a week long vacation where I went absolutely nowhere and was just still, I sit here thinking about what I should have done.  Not that the R&R was not well deserved, but in a city as diverse as Winston-Salem, I could have gotten out and done something fun. My yard, my plants, and my home were thankful for the break too.  

How many others take their vacation to just regroup?  For  those that are on the go and are looking for things to do that will not break the bank with the family, I give you my Summer Bucket List of 50 family-friendly activities geared towards kids:

  1. Go to the beach and build a sandcastle.
  2. Have a picnic in the park.
  3. Visit a zoo or aquarium.
  4. Go on a nature hike and collect leaves.
  5. Camp in the backyard.
  6. Have a family game night with board games.
  7. Visit a local farmer's market.
  8. Go to a water park.
  9. Fly kites on a windy day.
  10. Have a family movie night with popcorn.
  11. Go on a bike ride.
  12. Make homemade ice cream.
  13. Have a water balloon fight.
  14. Visit a children's museum.
  15. Go fruit picking (strawberries, blueberries, etc.).
  16. Have a backyard BBQ.
  17. Play mini-golf.
  18. Go to a drive-in movie theater.
  19. Take a day trip to a nearby city or town.
  20. Go fishing at a local lake or pond.
  21. Make a bird feeder and watch birds.
  22. Have a treasure hunt in the backyard.
  23. Go to a local fair or carnival.
  24. Make s'mores around a campfire.
  25. Visit a botanical garden.
  26. Go roller skating or ice skating.
  27. Have a lemonade stand.
  28. Visit a splash pad or public pool.
  29. Make tie-dye shirts.
  30. Go on a family photo scavenger hunt.
  31. Have a baking day and make cookies or cupcakes.
  32. Go to a baseball game.
  33. Visit a local library and join a summer reading program.
  34. Have a pajama day with breakfast for dinner.
  35. Do a family craft project.
  36. Go stargazing and learn about constellations.
  37. Visit an amusement park.
  38. Take a scenic drive and have a picnic.
  39. Have a DIY pizza night.
  40. Visit a historical site or museum.
  41. Plant a garden and grow vegetables or flowers.
  42. Play in a sprinkler or slip-n-slide.
  43. Go paddle boating or canoeing.
  44. Visit a petting zoo or farm.
  45. Have a science experiment day.
  46. Go to a free outdoor concert or movie night.
  47. Make a time capsule and bury it in the backyard.
  48. Have a sports day with family-friendly games.
  49. Visit a local festival or parade.
  50. Write and perform a family play or talent show.
