Best Parks in Winston-Salem

A Guide to Winston-Salem's beautiful Parks

By Jeffrey Willey Macaroni KID Winston-Salem Publisher April 25, 2024

Winston-Salem boasts more than 70 parks across the Triad region, all diligently cared for by the Recreation and Parks Department. A job that goes unnoticed by some is still very much appreciated by many. Many hours go into maintaining our parks for locals and visitors alike to enjoy them. We have compiled a list of favorites from our readers' suggestions and a few of our own.  Did your favorite make the list?  If not, feel free to drop us a line at mackidwinstonsalem@macaronikid.com to let us know.

Bethabara Park

4451 Old Town Drive
Winston-Salem, NC 27101

Bethabara Park is home to some of our favorite hiking trails in the area, and it is close to home! They also host many festivals and educational workshops on the grounds of this historic park.

Bolton Park

1590 Bolton Street
Winston-Salem, NC

If you like the sun, then you'll love this park!  The large swimming pool is a sure hit during this heat wave.  There is a playground for the kids and even a concession stand.  It's centrally located, so it's quite popular.

Davie County Community Park

151 Southwood Drive
Mocksville, NC

This park is stacked with amenities!  From the baseball field and fitness course to the playground and splash pad for the kids.  There is something for everyone!

Hanes Park

1406 W. Northwest Blvd
Winston-Salem, NC

With the baseball diamond, soccer field, walking trail, and tennis courts, this park is a hit for almost everyone.  The kids have a pretty sweet play area too.  Great place for a picnic!

Happy Hill Park

1230 Alder Street
Winston-Salem, NC

The track at Happy Hill Park will not disappoint.  The kids will have a ball at the playground and the splash pad.  A word of advice, BRING SUNSCREEN!

Hathaway Park

301 Anitra Drive
Winston-Salem, NC

The park has two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a baseball/softball field.  We tend to fly our drones on the baseball field when not in use.  The kids love the mystical theme of the play area, and the splash pad being so close to the picnic area makes it easy to keep an eye on them.

Horizons Park

2835 Memorial Industrial School Rd.
Rural Hall, NC

What we love best about this park is the 2-acre dog park.  Xena loves that too!  If you want to get in a quick game of disc golf, this is the course for you.  The playground is just right for the kids, but again, bring your sunscreen.

Jamison Park

285 Meadowlark Rd
Winston-Salem, NC

The equipment is fairly new on the playground, which makes it pretty clean.  Its proximity to Muddy Creek walking trails is a huge plus for this active bunch that likes to get out and explore.  Don't forget to bring Fido as it is also a pet-friendly park.

Joanie Moser Park

601 Lewisville-Clemmons Rd
Lewisville, NC

This park is sure to have something for everyone in the family.  It has a great playground area, basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and a softball field.  Don't forget to pack a lunch and take advantage of the picnic shelters too!

Leinbach Park

3511 Sally Kirk Rd
Winston-Salem, NC

The nautical ship in the playground is the selling point for the kids here.  The walking trails circle through the entire park, which makes it nice to keep an eye on everything.

Miller Park

400 Leisure Lane
Winston-Salem, NC

There are lots of walking trails, picnic shelters, and water here.  So pack a lunch and make a day of it.  Both upper and lower playground areas for the kids with fun interactive games, mini rock climbing, and lots of swings!

Old Town Park

4550 Shattalon Dr.
Winston-Salem, NC

This park has stuff for all ages of children.  Picnic area with grills, tennis courts, a baseball field, and a small walking trail.

Polo Park

1850 Polo Rd
Winston-Salem, NC

The entire park is fenced in, so that is a nice safety feature.  The play area is nice and clean, equipped with a jungle gym, swings, and spinning saucers for the kids.

Quarry Park

1790 Quarry Rd
Winston-Salem, NC

This is one of our favorites, with all of the scenic views.  There is an open play area, but no playground area,  although we have heard talks of one being built.  A great area for a picnic, just no shelters.

Reynolda Gardens

100 Reynolda Village
Winston-Salem, NC

Reynolda Gardens

If you have not been, get ready to be amazed.  The link above is nothing like visiting the gardens in person.  They are open to the public, free of charge.  The beauty of Reynolda Gardens is simply breathtaking.  Go today!

Salem Lake

1001 Salem Lake Rd
Winston-Salem, NC

Salem Lake offers a variety of things to do for visitors of all ages, but it is known mostly for the 7-mile trail that it houses for walking, running, hiking, bike riding, you name it.  There is an on-site bait shop, pier fishing, and boating. (additional fees and licenses are required.) This is a great way to spend the day family bonding. There is a nicely updated playground for the kiddos and also bathrooms.

Shaffner Park

900 Yorkshire Rd
Winston-Salem, NC

This is one that we have not visited due to the busy traffic surrounding it, and the fact that fido is not allowed to tag along, but we have heard great things. There is a nice open field area for flying drones or kites, a playground for the kids, and a mile-long paved walking trail as well.

Tanglewood Park

4061 Clemmons Rd
Clemmons, NC

This is the mecca of all parks!  If you can't find it at Tanglewood, I would be surprised it even exists.  With two playground areas, there is no way the kids will be bored.  For outdoor activists, they have tons of trails for running, mountain biking, walking, and hiking.  Tanglewood has horse stables, and for a small charge, you can even ride them.  The park houses a golf course, and tennis courts, and you have to check out the pool!  Tanglewood Park is a year-round adventure!

Washington Park

1490 S. Broad Street
Winston-Salem, NC

The dinosaur land play area is a huge attraction for the kids and keeps them busy for hours. They have 2 separate dog parks based on the side of your furry family member.  Be sure to load the bikes for the kids as they enjoy exploring the trails and paths.  It is easy to spend the entire day here!
